Today, we visited an orphanage, located near Kathmandu to distribute much-needed Umbrellas to a group of students. It’s monsoon season here in Nepal, and it’s raining days and nights. We thought of distributing umbrellas, together with handy school bags, as well as lunchboxes during tiffin hours.

This was a moment of happiness that was earned together.

Mr. Pancha Bir Singha Tuladhar is a former Lhasa trader. He was born in 1993 B.S. (1936 A.D.) and was raised in Kathmandu. Today, he is 85 years old.

Tuladhar first went to Lhasa with his uncle (aunt’s husband) when he was just 13 years old in 2006 B.S. (1949 A.D.). He stayed there for 5 years (while coming back and forth from Lhasa to Kathmandu).

There, he worked at a shop in Bhakhor near Jokhang mandir. The business mainly included Keshari (saffron), wrist watches – Rolex, Omega, Wester Watch. He also sold tires, Chaku (molasses), woolen clothes etc. He had picked up two languages while dealing with people in Lhasa i.e. Tibetan and Chinese.

Mr. Tuladhar is currently working in a hydro-power company.

Pancha Bir Singha Tuladhar has made numerous remarkable contributions. Some of them are as follows:

• He had established Deepankar Tathagata’s statue in Lumbini University’s central library.
• He has “Pancha Bir Singha Sirapa” for Bhasa and Dharma (Language and religion) which will be celebrating it’s 23rd year now.
• Mr Tuladhar had donated 1,11,11,111 (1 crore rupees) to Akshaykosh (for health) in Akhil Nepal Bhikshu Mahasangh, Lumbini.
• In Bodhgaya, Banarasi, Saranath, he contributed to Dharma Chakra Sutra in Ranjana lipi, Pali Bhasa.
